Frequently asked
Common questions about pricing and limits.
Is Bytes really free?
Yes, forever. No paywall, no premium tier hiding features, no "free trial" that becomes paid. We may add an optional Pro tier in the future for power users, but the core experience stays free.
How do you make money?
Right now, we don't — Bytes is an independent project focused on building the best reading experience. If we monetize in the future, it will be through optional premium features, never through ads or selling your data.
What are the usage limits?
Your feed syncs up to 6 times per hour and fetches up to 30 articles per minute per user. These limits exist to keep costs sustainable and prevent abuse, not to upsell you.
Where do the articles come from?
Bytes fetches articles from a curated list of public RSS feeds — currently BBC, NPR, The Verge, Ars Technica, TechCrunch, Hacker News, ESPN, CoinDesk, and Variety. Every story links to its original publisher; we don't paraphrase or rewrite headlines.
Do you offer a student or nonprofit discount?
Everything is free, so there's no discount to offer — but if you're building something for students, nonprofits, or journalism, we'd love to hear about it. Reach out via the contact page.
